Utah Starts Enforcing Age Checks on Adult Sites From November 2: What Changes for Fans
If you live in Utah, the "are you 18?" button is no longer enough on many adult sites. The state is now checking that sites actually verify your age.
On October 30, 2026, the Utah Department of Commerce announced that enforcement of its age verification law for commercial adult websites would start statewide on Monday, November 2. Local station KUTV confirmed it is now in effect.
What the state actually said
The law in question is S.B. 73, the Online Age Verification Amendments. It took effect in May, but enforcement only starts now.
It covers any commercial site that knowingly publishes adult material and where a substantial portion of the site is that kind of content. Those sites must use reasonable age verification methods so that users are at least 18.
The state says it has set up auditing tools and that investigators are ready to document which sites comply. Sites that do not can face enforcement action.
The VPN part is on hold
One piece of the law is paused. A federal court preliminary injunction blocks the provision about people who hide their real location, for example with a VPN.
The state insists that this injunction does not touch the main rule. In its words, the age verification requirement remains "fully enforceable."
What this means for you as a fan
The duty sits with the platform, not with you. You will not be fined for visiting a site. But you may see more checks when you log in from Utah.
- Expect an age check. Depending on the site, that can be a selfie, a face scan or an ID upload. We explained how one platform does it in our piece on the Fanvue face scan.
- Read who handles your data. Before you upload anything, check the site's privacy page to see which provider runs the check and what is deleted afterwards.
- Some sites may simply block Utah. Rather than build a check, some operators, such as Pornhub's parent company Aylo, have chosen to geo-block whole states, as Recording Law notes. That is their business choice, not a ban on the content.
- Stay on official pages. Fake "verify your age" pop-ups are a classic phishing trick. Only verify on the real site you opened yourself.
- Utah is not alone. The tracker ageverificationlaws.com counts 27 US states with age check laws for adult sites, as of October 28, 2026.
