Why Does OnlyFans Keep Asking for Face Verification? Reasons and Fixes

You log in, ready to see a new post, and OnlyFans wants a selfie. Again. It is annoying, but it is rarely random. Here is why the check appears, what happens to your face data, and how to get through it the first time.
The short answer
OnlyFans must make sure every fan is 18 or older. In some locations, and in some situations, its Privacy Policy says it asks fans for an extra age check run by a third-party provider. A face scan is one step of that process, and you can be asked again later.
How the OnlyFans age check works
The Privacy Policy (last updated June 2026) describes a ladder that starts with the lightest check:
- Email address age estimation. A third party estimates whether you are over 18 by looking at where your email address has been used before.
- Facial age estimation. If the email check fails, or is not allowed where you live, you may be asked for a short selfie clip. The policy says this only estimates your age and is not used to recognize you.
- Full age and identity verification. A government ID plus a selfie, matched by the provider.
For the estimation steps, OnlyFans says it only receives the result: pass or fail, and the reason for a fail.
Why it keeps coming back
1. Where you are
The checks depend on your location and the law there. In the US, the Supreme Court upheld Texas' age-verification law on June 27, 2025, and counted at least 21 other states with similar laws. In the UK, the Online Safety Act requires highly effective age checks on sites with adult content.
2. Your email check did not pass
A new or rarely used email address gives the estimator little to work with, so the next step is the selfie.
3. Your face looked younger than the threshold
Facial age estimation uses a "challenge age" above 18. In a March 2025 decision, the UK regulator Ofcom found that OnlyFans had set it at 20, then moved it to 21 in January 2025. If you are estimated below that age, you get offered a stronger check. That is not an accusation, just the system playing safe.
4. Periodic re-checks
The policy says OnlyFans "may require you to periodically authenticate your identity" while you hold an account. So a repeat request can be routine.
5. An account review
Yoti, which OnlyFans named as its age estimation provider in a statement to TechCrunch, says platforms may ask for a check at sign-up, before age-restricted content, or during account reviews.

What happens to your selfie?
- Age estimate only: Yoti says the selfie is used to estimate your age and then deleted. It is not stored or shared with the platform, and it cannot identify who you are.
- Full ID check: the Privacy Policy says the provider may keep face recognition data so you can re-verify without your ID. You can ask OnlyFans to withdraw that consent and delete it.
- What OnlyFans keeps: the result of the check and some metadata, such as start and finish time.
How to pass the face check the first time
These are our practical tips, not official rules:
- Face a window or a lamp so your face is evenly lit, with no strong light behind you.
- Take off sunglasses, caps and masks, and keep your whole face in the frame.
- Hold the phone steady at eye level and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Use your live camera. Yoti says its system checks for a real person and detects photos, masks and deepfakes, so tricks will fail.
- If the estimate fails, take the ID route instead of retrying again and again.
What not to do
- Do not use someone else's face or ID, and do not open a second account to dodge the check. The terms let OnlyFans ask for more information before approving an account.
- Do not send a selfie or ID to anyone in DMs who says they "verify" accounts. Do the check only inside OnlyFans.
- Stuck? The Terms of Use list support@onlyfans.com and the contact form as the official channels.
Creators get a different check
Creators always verify with a valid ID and two photos before their account opens, under the Terms of Use. This page is about the fan side.

Once you are verified
You are back in. If you are new here, start with how OnlyFans works for fans, or meet a few creators who post on Uncove, like Miss_camille Paid link or Lilouve Paid link.
And if the checks are a dealbreaker, here is how to delete your OnlyFans account.
FAQ
Is the OnlyFans face scan safe?
For the age estimate, Yoti says the selfie is deleted after the estimate and not shared with the platform, and OnlyFans says it only receives a pass or fail result.
Does OnlyFans store my face?
OnlyFans says it does not receive face recognition data from the estimate. If you do the full ID check, the provider may keep face data for re-verification, and you can ask to have it deleted.
Why did my OnlyFans face check fail?
Usually poor light, a partly hidden face, or an estimate below the challenge age, which Ofcom found OnlyFans had set at 21 in January 2025. You can then verify with an ID.
Why do I have to verify again?
The Privacy Policy says OnlyFans may require you to periodically authenticate your identity while you hold an account. Location and account reviews can trigger it too.
Can I verify with ID instead of a selfie?
The full check uses a government ID plus a selfie. It is offered when an estimate does not confirm you are over 18.
